Brandy is a Family Nurse Practitioner who developed passion for functional medicine after recognizing the serious short comings in the conventional medical model with chronic disease management. She became very frustrated with the endless recommendations of another medication for every symptom and disease. As with many of her patients she fell prey to lifestyle related illnesses such as autoimmune thyroid dysfunction, adrenal and sex hormone dysfunction, anxiety, and undesirable weight fluctuations. Desperate to find the root cause of the dysfunctions and the treatment for the underlying pathology, she discovered Functional Medicine. This was the beginning of her path and the path to start leading others on their journey to optimal.
Brandy has been in the health care field for over 20 years. At the age of 20, she became an RN and began her 9 year career as an ICU nurse. She pursued her higher education at the University of Texas at Arlington and graduated in 2004 with a Master's of Science in Nursing Degree. She then became a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2005. She co-founded a busy private medical practice in 2006. In 2011, her path in functional medicine began with hearing a speech by Dr.Jeffry Bland on inflammation as a basis for degenerative diseases and the role of epigenetics in health and disease. Blown away and baffled by the speech, she knew Dr.Bland had the answers to the questions she been searching. Since that day, Brandy has studied functional medicine with every means possible. She has attended multiple conferences and modules and is a Certified Functional Medicine Provider by the Institute of Functional Medicine . She has sought out numerous leaders in the field to be her mentor. She has completed level 1 training with Chris Kresser, LAc and the Kresser Institute for Functional and Evolutionary Medicine.
Brandy is known in her community for her dedication to nutrition, fitness, and general wellness. It is her mission to help individuals feel and function optimally. She lives in Paris, Texas with her husband, Gary, and 2 busy boys, Walker and Reed.
About Functional Medicine
Functional medicine is a model of health care which views the body as a interconnected whole within a larger environment.
It is truly a holistic approach to healing as we recognize in order to treat one part of the body, all other parts must be considered as well as environmental influences. Underlying phenomena such as inflammation, oxidative stress, toxicities, chronic infections, and cellular energy problems are considered in order to understand the root cause of ill health. Although medications or supplements may be needed, lifestyle factors are at the cornerstone of healing within the functional medicine model rather than pharmaceutical or surgical intervention. The patient is actively engaged in their treatment while being guided by the functional medicine provider.
